You tend to see a lot of people enter keywords in to the search engines to find the best products in certain categories and people also do this with cordless headphones. Can you tell me the best cordless headphones will be something that people type in to google on a regular basis.

How can people answer such as question? One persons opinion is totally different to another persons and also people want cordless headphones to do different things whether it is gaming, watching TV or media on the laptop.

I am not going to tell what the best cordless headphones are BUT I will give you a quick strategy to find out which ones are the best for you.

Set an upper limit of the amount of money that you want to spend. This will be the maximum that you are prepared to pay and will not exceed. Go to Amazon and type in cordless headphones and filter by value so that all models come up that are less than your maximum spend limit.

Go through each model and read the feedback and check out the stars that users who have bought the product are awarding. Read 5 stars first and then 4 stars and then 3 stars – don’t consider anything below 3 stars.

Find a set that you like and then go on to a price comparison website and find the lowest price, including shipping, that you can buy them for. Do not consider eBay.

There you have it – a method for finding the best cordless headphones for you and no one else. You still will not know how good they are until you use them but you know you will have carried out all the research that you can.

Many people consider cordless headphones a great product to use when listening to music however, whilst still valid, those thoughts are a little outdated since the handheld MP3 came on the scene. This product allows ultimate mobility which the cordless headphone normally took care of.

The sales of the best cordless headphones are still increasing so what are people using them for now?

Cordless Headphones For TV

The ultimate in horizontal listening devices! For the couch lizards of this world cordless tv headphones mean that you can now listening to your favourite tv programs and not bother anybody else whilst doing so. You have the mobility to swap channels, drink soda and eat popcorn and not miss a beat.

Cordless Stereo Headphones

Technology has allowed us to venture beyond our dreams and the ability to listen to any media in stereo is something that comes as standard on most quality headphones these days

Cordless Gamer Headphones

And you though that watching tv with headphones on was the ultimate. Gamers (weird breed of people) can now pay as much attention to their gaming skills as they do living. They can actively participate in games in virtual reality making all the moves they need to and doing so unhindered.

Cordless Headsets

For the more professional person these are used for activities such as call centre work so that the boss can get as much out of an employee as they can by making sure that they can do two things at once (sorry – multitask). Productivity shoots up (allegedly).

As you can see people are using cordless headphones for much more than playing there favourite tunes on and have pretty much adapted them for any type of media or entertainment. Companies have also started producing products that are specifically targetted to the niche markets listed above and sales of these are still increasing also.

One of the first things I would want to know if I were considering buying a new pair of cordless headphones would be what are the pros and cons or what are the benefits that I will get and what can I expect to be the downside.

More simply put – what is my trade-off? what do I need to compromise on (if anything)?

Here are the things that you need to be aware of HOWEVER let me say at the outset that that these are general comments and will not apply to some of the models of cordless headphones that are on the market at this moment in time.

Some of The Pros

1. Headphones that used standard batteries and won’t need constant replacing if the battery time usage on the product is efficient and effective.

2. Good quality products have sound quality that is excellent a strong bass strong, prominent mids are prominent and crisp highs will work well just with music as with television and gaming.

3. A simple easy to understand and administer charging system will save you countless hours in lost time. Simple is (mostly) better.

4. Most products deliver three connection adapters as standard so they’ll work with just about any TV, radio, stereo, DVD or game system.

5. Extended range of up to 300 feet without loss in sound quality.

A Sample of The Cons

1. If the Transmission Range is not very long you won’t won’t be allowed the flexibility that you thought the product would deliver (a major disappointment).

2. Rechargeable battery can only last me about two days until they need recharging again This is time spent which can also be money in lost time spent.

3. Some lower range sets can tend to look plastic and look a little bit cheap.

4. If a big enough object comes between the headphone and the transmitter it will cut out so the positioning of the transmitter is critical.

5. Especially on full size headphones if the bar is not padded and the phones have built-in springs the weight can be forced down on to the top of the head, this will cause some unease for session of long use.

6. Some older sets don’t offer RCA Audio output any longer which restricts usage.

7. Noise cancellation technology may not be included in the technology therefore you may suffer depending on what you have bought them to do.

It might be an obvious thing to say, and I don’t want to treat the reader with any disrespect however they must review each individual consideration against a back drop of the above in order to make as good as an informed decision as they are able to do before spending their money on a pair of cordless headphones.

The market for cordless headphones alone is absolutely massive but when you start looking at alternative listening devices and media it can become a daunting prospective to fathom it all out.

It is my intention to cast some light on this by going through the various devices and giving a brief explanation as to their use, their design and characteristics.

By doing so you will hopefully have more information at your disposal when you are deciding whether or not to invest in some cordless headphones or otherwise.

Supra-aural Designed Headphones

You will probably be more familiar with this type of device if I said to you that that they were provided with the portable hand held cassette players in the 1980′s.Foam pads are actually sat on top of your ears as opposed to encapsulating them. Due to the fact that there is less material, and they are very lightweight in design they weigh a lot less than circumaural headphones which encompass your ears. Your ears also tend to sweat a lot less as a result.

Earbud Devices

If you are looking for a small and unassuming headphone then earbuds should be your choice.

They are placed directly outside of the ear canal, but without fully enveloping it. The price is comparatively low with some buds under the $10 mark and with them being so small they do not take up much room so they are portable.

Because they do not cup the ear the user can get external noise filtering in to the ear and quite often the volume needs increasing due to this. These devices are commonly supplied with portable MP3 players and started to become popular in the late 1990′s.

Circumaural Headphones

Circumaural headphones are sometimes known as full size headphones, these are the type that you often see used by the superstar DJ’s in the DJ booths at your local nightclub or on TV. They have circular or ellipsoid earpads that encompass the ears. These tend to be quite big and heavy which seems to be quite trendy at the moment, it also gives the manufacturer an opportunity to place their name across the headband and advertise their product.

Headsets

A microphone and headphone combined gives you dual functionality and that is what a headset provides giving you the ability to work in a hands free environment. These are commonly used in call centers and in a gaming environment and other occupations that require you to use your hands on the computer whilst listening and talking. On a technical front these come with a single earpiece or a double and the microphone arm of headsets is either an external microphone type where the microphone is held in front of the user’s mouth, or a voicetube type where the microphone is housed in the earpiece and speech reaches it by means of a hollow tube.

Canal Earphones

These are, uncommonly I have say, also termed IEM’s or in-ear monitors and are earphones that you place directly into your ear just like you would earbuds to stop hearing noise. Because people have very different size ear canals it is difficult to get a very tight fit so these do tend to drop out on occasion. You can buy custom fitting ones that come with a variety of silicon rubber inserts however these cost a little more than non-custom plugs.

These are very small so they can be transported with ease, noise cancellation varieties are also manufactured by the better known brand makers.

So, these are the alternatives to cordless headphones and each has a degree of functionality that is, generally speaking, in-line with their cost, the technology employed and whether or not that technology is even outdated or not. Having said that you need to focus on these 4 key areas when making your own assessment: Sound quality, cost, comfort and design.

Before we answer this question it is worth defining what are ‘good cordless headphones’ because what is good to one person is not good to another. Your own research is required after reading this article because some factors will be more important to you than others. This will be different for someone else, ‘one mans treasure is another mans scrap’ as they say!

Generally speaking the listening device has to place ticks against most of the following categories. Additional articles on this website will give you this information.

Criteria To Measure Against

1. The battery life can’t be too short and, where possible, rechargeable batteries need to be accommodated the base unit. This is purely a cost issue and negates you having to spend more and more money that was not built in to the initial cost of the product.

2. The transmission range needs to be adequate – anything up to the 25 foot range is acceptable HOWEVER this is personal choice depending upon what you use for the product will be.The base unit will either be infrared or transmission.

3. The product can’t be too heavy otherwise it will put pressure on your head and ears and the comfort ability of the product is impaired. This does not matter so much for short usage times but obviously does impact if you intend using it for anything over 30 minutes.

4. Looks – this is cosmetic if truth be told and you should only be concerned with practicality however they need to be made from robust material and look pleasing on the eye.

5. Sound quality – this is arguably the most important point combined with transmission range. You do not want a loss in quality in-line with how high you have the volume.

Nevertheless this is a trade-off because most headsets will give you a hiss and/ or sound clipping when you turn up the volume to maximum levels.

Cost v Quality – The Trade Off

The most popular cordless headsets are Sony MDR-IF240RK and Sennheiser RS120, you only have to look at any popular shopping website to see this. The cost of these are $40 and $65 respectively. The first tier are as much as $250 the second tier of devices are around the $60 range and at the lower end the third tier there are sets that are as low as $13. So there is quite a difference in price between the popular Sennheiser RS120 – $65 and the

Sony MDR-IF240RK which is $40, however what you have to do is measure the cost (and how affordable this is to YOU) against the quality of the product.

Like anything else you will have to compromise on something.

This might come as a surprise to you but cordless headphones aren’t necessarily any better than normal plug-in headphones, earphones or any other type of listening device. They are better in certain circumstances or if you have a specific need for them. At the end of the day if you do not have either of these 2 points as a requirement you are free to chose what ever type of listening device you require.

So why would you need cordless as opposed to regular headphones?

If you require freedom of movement away from your media player in order to do something at the same time as listening you most definitely will find cordless better. Regular headsets restrict your movement to the length of the flex that attaches them to the media player.

The flex can also restrict your movement by getting tangled up with your movement and ca even force the plug out of the media player and possibly even damage it.

Another benefit that cordless have over plug-ins is that you are going to get more exercise in terms of stretching and general movement. If you are restricted to sitting near your

media player because you use a plug-in device, and additionally the cord is not very long, you are not going to get much movement – if you are in the same position for an extended period of time this is going to be very uncomfortable for you. Cordless sets help you avoid this because you are free to move and stretch as you wish.

An example of a specific requirement to benefit from cordless is if you are a gamer. Gamer headsets are better than plugins due the fact that, by virtue of the activity involved, you are going to want to move and get animated whilst playing your game.

Sound Quality and Sound Levels

Generally speaking if you keep the sound level on a reasonable scale you will not suffer with any quality issues such as hissing or sound clipping however if you do ramp the volume up you may have to accept that this will happen. It’s a matter of reaching a compromise.

It goes without saying that, unless you use rechargeable batteries, you are going to have ongoing costs with cordless headphones which will not be the case with plug-in listening devices. This is something that people often overlook.

If you want a flexible unit and need to multitask then it is worth considering infrared headphones or transmitter headphones however if you do not need this you may want to look at other types.

What criteria do cordless headphones need to satisfy in order to be utilized by the average family?

They need to be well made to suffer the bumps and bruises that they will undoubtedly get as they are shuffled amongst family members. They need to be light enough to be easily carried and not too cumbersome. They need to ‘look’ aesthetically pleasing otherwise the younger people won’t use them whilst in front of their friends and they need to have great sound quality. In addition to all this they need to be good value for money.

So – if all this is satisfied what do you get?

One of the major benefits of owning a pair of cordless headphones is the fact that the person that is using them has the ability to roam around from one room to the next room without this impacting upon the quality and the noise level of what they are listening to.

Because of the versatility that they offer they have become very popular with families, especially parents with children, because the parent can keep an eye on their movements without breaking out of the song, webinar or chat that they were taking part in. Everybody wins as the child is being watched and the adult doesn’t miss out on the eagerly awaited webinar.

Another practical accessory that is increasing in popularity day by day is the cordless gaming headphone. This allows the active and animated gaming enthusiast the freedom of movement whilst carry out the exploits that the game that they are playing demands. Obviously this type of product is associated more with the teenager of the family.
Another added benefit is that these can also be used as tv headphones as well.

The major benefit to family members is the fact that you can have the freedom to ‘multitask’ .
